For Parents
Helping Every Child Feel Seen, Supported, and IncludedWhen your child is diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, your world changes overnight. Suddenly, you're learning blood sugar management, insulin dosing, technology, doctor's appointments, and countless new routines—all while trying to comfort and protect your family.
In the middle of this whirlwind, it's easy to worry about your other children.
Siblings often have big questions and even bigger emotions. They may feel scared for their brother or sister, confused by what is happening, left out because so much attention is focused on diabetes care, or unsure of how they can help. These feelings are completely normal, and with the right support, they can become opportunities for growth, connection, and resilience.
Super Sibling™ was created to help you support every child in your family.
Why Sibling Support Matters
Siblings play an important role in your family's journey. When they understand Type 1 diabetes and feel included in age-appropriate ways, they are more likely to:
Feel less anxious and confused.
Build empathy and confidence.
Develop healthy ways to express their emotions.
Strengthen their relationship with their sibling.
Feel connected instead of overlooked.
Become positive members of your family's support system.
Supporting siblings isn't about giving them responsibility for diabetes care—it's about giving them understanding, reassurance, and a place to process their own experience.

Created by Someone Who Understands
Super Sibling™ was developed by Kelsey Ruffing, MA, MS, LCPC—a clinical health therapist, educator, pediatric chronic illness advocate, and mother of two, one of which was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at 18 months of age.
The program combines professional expertise with lived experience, recognizing that families need more than medical education. They also need emotional support, practical tools, and resources that help every member of the family adjust to life with Type 1 diabetes.
You Don't Have to Navigate This Alone
Whether your family is newly diagnosed or has been living with Type 1 diabetes for years, it's never too early—or too late—to support your child's siblings.
Super Sibling™ is here to help you build stronger family connections, encourage open conversations, and remind every child that they are an important part of your family's story.
Because when siblings feel supported, families grow stronger together.
